Two things hit me today: it's going to be Halloween soon, and shortly after that I'll have been here six months. I have the urge to decorate!
Six months doesn't mean anything special; it's just some random period of Earth time that has no particular meaning on a planet with its own year and an odd seasonal cycle. But it makes me realize that I've kind of been perching. My hab is the same utilitarian space that I set up long ago, and I've been living here like it belongs to someone else. Or like I'm going to get thrown out soon, maybe sent home. Time to dress up these drab foam walls and make it a space to live in, not just survive in.
I've been projecting patterns and experimenting with color schemes. Naturally I'm limited in terms of the pigments I can synthesize, but some pastel salmon and teal would make good overall tints with some dark blue and brick red as accents. I want to paint the crapper like an old-fashioned outhouse, but I think I'd hate it in the morning. Or I could paint some fake bars on the wall to make it look like a prison cell. Again, a bit depressing, but whimsically Halloweeny. Or pepper the ceiling with stars since I haven't seen a single one since I landed. Ugh. If I ever get any good ideas I'll let you know.
